Ambassador's Address
Dear readers,I am pleased I can greet you on the pages of a project representing the support our country, a member of the European Union,
gives to all the institutions of the Kingdom of Thailand involved in setting off on a path which is far from easy: to protect and provide access to natural and cultural heritage of the country – heritage, that must be not only protected, but also preserved for future generations.Being formed in co-operation with the Thai Ecotourism and Adventure Travel Association and after forethought and analysis of endless diversity of this country’s natural gems, the project was directed to the Western Forest Complex, a natural system whose importance goes beyond boundaries of one country, a natural territory straddling the borderland of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Union of Myanmar.It is one of the biggest protected territories in South-East Asia with exceptional fauna and flora of four bio-geographical zones that meet right in this region. Only recent havoc prevents us from spreading the project beyond the western border of the Kingdom of Thailand. This area has still been mostly untouched by civilization thus offering us a possibility to broaden our knowledge by research of an undisturbed nature, which has nowadays been rare even in South-East Asia itself.Also in relation to the above mentioned our country pays permanent attention to environment protection both in the Czech Republic as well as globally and keeps financing – through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – projects like this one aimed at conserving current ecosystems and stressing the importance of ecotourism in the region.Our common goal is to provide competent information and make it available to the global and local public, thereby make exploring this unique natural complex easier both for the public and the tourists that care for maintaining the original character of the visited places.I believe the following pages will be not only interesting in new and unexpected ways, but also inspirational for your next trip around the Kingdom of Thailand, regardless of your geographical distance from this beautiful region.Dipl.
